We will be very careful to clean deeply and disinfect between bookings! High atop Reva Ridge, lofting over mountains, water, and sky stands the retreat at STARVUE LODGE. Far from city lights, this is a place where even Colorado natives marvel at one of the most dramatic views from a home in Colorado and in all of North America. The central location is close to Leadville, a short drive to Aspen (in the summer), Vail, Beaver Creek, Silverthorne, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Ski Cooper, Salida, and Buena Vista. After years of searching, we hand-picked the land as 'the' perfect place to build a log cabin in Colorado. With 360 degree views of the highest mountains in the Colorado Rockies, this home was originally built as our family summer retreat and is now welcoming guests and their dogs from around the world. This home is managed by Black Wolf Lodging which gives you many advantages over other properties. First, 10% off rafting trips this spring and summer plus 10% off snowmobile tours in the winter. Next, you are checked in personally by a local, someone who lives in and knows Twin Lakes. We can answer your questions about what to see and do, what is open at that time of year and where the favorite hideaways are that only locals know. In the winter we have access to unknown snowshoe and snowmobile trails and in the summer we can tell you what the local trail conditions are and about the best photo opportunities. Mostly though, we are in the neighborhood 24/7 to assist you with any problems that may arise, not hours away and potentially unreachable. Finally we have access to specials like discounted lift tickets and raft trips that others don’t offer. Black Wolf Lodging, the only locally owned and operated vacation home rental business in Twin Lakes. Great for couples, families, company retreats, or those wanting a motivating place to write a screenplay, novel or launch the next high-tech company. StarVue Lodge features a 'great' great room, 'mountain-overlooking' master suite, 'motivational' office and library loft, and wrap around porches facing south and west. A separate downstairs quarters features a large bedroom, bath, and family room complete with the most dramatic walk out basement in the world...seriously. When our family vacations here, we typically plan days around hikes and canoeing in the lake and over to the ghost town for lunch, climbing the local mountains, dinners in Twin Lakes Village, day trips to Aspen, Vail, or Breckenridge, exploring Leadville, and rafting or hot spring trips within a 30 minute drive. Here, the nights are truly special. The name StarVue comes from both the unimaginable view of the stars, as many as can be seen in the world without a telescope and clear and crisp as if they were a hundred miles away AND the view of Star Mountain nestled between two of the tallest mountains in America. In fact, the master bedroom was designed so that you can watch the stars as you go to sleep. Fireplace is not available in the summer due to fire danger. Owner strongly requests no smoking, electric cigarettes or vaping in the house or on the property! Cabin in Buena Vista, CO
0.4 miles from Twin Lakes
Remote yet easily accessible, this is a perfect year round retreat. Originally built in 1885, the log cabin has been fully restored and upgraded, including exposed logs, bronze counters and custom tile work. An addition to the cabin was built in 1970 and has also been fully remodeled. They are now a fully connected living space, yet each distinct in their own right. The historic cabin is about 500 square feet and has an open floor plan. There's a comfy queen size bed with all the sheets, pillows and blankets you'll need. The kitchen, although small, is fully stocked with cookware and everything you'll want but the food. There's a small fridge and freezer, stove and oven. In the winter, you'll find the cabin stocked with firewood and kindling, and there's also electric baseboard heat. Time and again guests say the bathroom is their favorite room, with an antique ash bucket converted into a sink, and unique details throughout. The new addition is like a 600 square feet tiny house, complete with a second fully stocked kitchen, bathroom (with heated tiled floors), master bedroom with a queen bed (also with sheets and blankets) and tv/dvd, mud room, with a washer and dryer and sleeping loft. The loft is 10'x5' with a plush carpet and double layers of carpet. Kids and adults enjoy it equally. Each area has a Flat Screen with HDMI and DVD player, with a shared DVD library for your enjoyment. You'll also find some board games and cards. Sheet, towels and blankets are included in the rental. The cabin has no cable or internet, but cell phones get excellent reception. For those not familiar with the historic town of Twin Lakes, it is nestled along Hwy 82 which continues over Independence Pass and into Aspen (about 40 miles) in the summer. The drive is so spectacular that it has been listed in the book "1,000 Places to See Before You Die". The activity of the summer months ends from November- May, when the Pass closes along with the local shops and Inns. Year round you'll be 20 miles (in opposite directions) from both Buena Vista (you'll love Cottonwood Hot Springs, river rafting and Eddyline- the local brewery and gourmet pizzeria) and Leadville (ski at Cooper, ride the train and go antiquing). Or maybe best of all, you can stay put and enjoy endless outdoor activities on the lake, or on hiking, skiing, snow shoe and biking trails. The Leadville 100 even puts a station outside our front gate!

Chalet (2800 sq. ft.) in Twin Lakes, CO
0.5 miles from Twin Lakes
A premium mountain cabin, located just above historic Twin Lakes Village, the Bartlett is a luxurious log home retreat. Named after the prosperous 19th Century gold mine a quarter of a mile up the hill, The Bartlett is our family’s get away from the rush of everyday life. The property sits on the base of Mount Elbert—the Rockies' highest summit—and it is grandfathered-in within the magnificent San Isabel National Forest, giving it breathtaking views of a few 14ers and the Twin Lakes. WINTER GUESTS (NOVEMBER-APRIL), PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING. It gets cold up here—very cold! The roads are steep and winding, and it snows tons, and help sometimes is hours away. That's what attracts people like Mónica and me to a place like this. The bold and resourceful get rewarded up here in winter. Think about it, Twin Lakes is a remote historic mining village nestled deep within a National Forest at the base of the Rocky's tallest mountain. Its wildness, peace, and beauty in winter are breathtaking—making a winter stay at our cabin, one of the most gratifying experiences anyone can have. Yet, winter in Twin Lakes is not for everyone. A few things to consider: Bring an AWD/4WD vehicle. A front-wheel-drive Hyundai has no place on the Colorado Rockies in winter. If you can't bring your own four-wheeler, rent one. Hertz, Enterprise, and Avis have many great options available. As I said, it gets freezing up here, even inside the cabin. So bring plenty of warm clothes and a hardy mindest. At night, don't worry; we've outfitted each bedroom with a space heater and plenty of warm, cozy blankets. It snows tons up here. Be prepared to shovel some snow, run the snow thrower, or the unlikely possibility of being snowed-in a few hours. Like I mentioned before, help can be hours away, but while you wait for the county plows to clear the main road, start a warm fire, soak in the hot tub, and enjoy the magnificent winter views. These will more than make-up for all of it. You will not be alone. Mónica and I will always be just a phone call away. We will gladly help and guide you out of any unexpected situation. That's our commitment to you.

+ COVID-19 - Reserve With Confidence: The Wolf Den has earned a Safe Lodging Certificate from Lake County, in addition to meeting Vrbo's enhanced cleaning requirements. If you or anyone in your family experiences symptoms of COVID-19 or a positive COVID-19 test within 15 days prior to your stay, please stay home and do not travel. We will reschedule or fully refund guest cancellations made in these instances. And please do not forget: Face coverings are required in Colorado, even in the outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained on trails or at ski areas. + Check out the view and take a tour on Instagram @WolfDenColorado or find us online wolfdencolorado dot com --- Prepare to be stunned by the incredible, panoramic mountain views at the WOLF DEN. Located 2.5 hours from Denver, our family's mountain retreat is the perfect basecamp for adventure in Central Colorado — no matter the season. Whether you wish to hike, summit the many surrounding 14ers, cycle, fish, raft, ski, snowshoe or more, the outdoors await! And the Den's cozy interior and bubbling hot tub will help restore you for the next day's activities. The WOLF DEN sleeps 8 in its main house with additional room for 2 in a private, attached garage apartment. Couples or families will feel as if they have privacy, and yet the home's main living areas are spacious and inviting for shared group meals, conversations or board games. A well-appointed, modern kitchen and outdoor gas grill make cooking for a hungry crowd easy. Dine at the large kitchen table or opt outside (if the season allows), where a dining table, chairs and unbeatable views create an unforgettable family dinner setting. After dinner, make lasting memories by roasting s'mores on the outdoor fire pit, stargazing from the hot tub or curling up with a good book in the living room. One of our family's favorite evening activities is to turn off all the lights in the house and sit in the living room counting shooting stars! Our goal as hosts is to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. PLEASE REVIEW OUR HOUSE RULES TO ENSURE THE WOLF DEN BEST FITS YOUR EXPECTATIONS: + All rental guests must be age 25 or older at the time of booking. + Absolutely no smoking inside *or* outside. This no-tolerance policy applies to outside because of frequent fire bans and fire danger. + No loud outdoor music or partying. This is video and audio monitored with exterior security cameras. + No events or undisclosed gatherings with additional visitors. + No cable TV. We do have an old-school DVD player with a selection of movies, mostly for kids. + Our satellite wifi is the best we can get, but it is not high speed. You won't be able to stream videos, and the connection can be spotty. + Cell service is also spotty. + 4WD/AWD recommended in winter. LOCATION The Den is a remote mountain home. Plan to arrive prepared with your groceries and necessities. A 30-minute drive reaches several of Colorado’s great mountain towns, including Leadville and Buena Vista. Twin Lakes sits at the base of world-famous Independence Pass, a beautiful 1-hour scenic drive to Aspen. Please note Independence Pass/HWY 82 closes in wintertime. The drive to the nearest ski area, Ski Cooper, is 27 miles. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD The Wolf Den is located in a remote, tiny mountain town. Twin Lakes is pretty amazing; in fact, our family is a little apprehensive to share it with others. As visitors to the area, please think about your impact to our town and the small surrounding communities. Please respect full-time residents' privacy and solitude. Follow Leave No Trace guidelines when visiting and recreating in the beautiful outdoors, and consider supporting local dining and shopping during your stay. LEADVILLE RACE EVENTS The Wolf Den is an excellent place for Leadville 100 race participants and their families. Book early, as these weekends go fast! Our driveway is located off of the Leadville Trail 100 MTB race course — a great spot for a cheer squad. The Leadville Trail 100 Run traces through the Twin Lakes aid station, just minutes away from the house. On race night, you can watch the glow of athletes’ headlamps as they travel up/down Hope Pass. It's pretty spectacular! DOG- AND FAMILY FRIENDLY In addition to welcoming owner-approved dogs with a $175 fee, the Wolf Den is also kid and baby friendly. One full-sized crib is located within an upstairs bedroom, and 2 portable cribs are also stored for guest use. Two booster seats may be used for dining, and children may access a supply of toys and books carefully curated by our son. The Den is our family’s basecamp for backcountry Colorado adventure, and we hope you will consider it for your next Colorado mountain getaway or ski vacation.

You should have full LTE coverage everywhere on the premises, regardless of your service provider. You will run into dead zones on your way here,. CHECK-IN & FURTHER INFORMATION Several days prior to check-in I will send you a link which contains an e-manual. In this manual you will find all necessary and relevant information relating to your stay. I have also included my suggestions for the best thing to do around Denver, my favorite restaurants, hikes, nightlife and much more! HAVE A FURRY FRIEND YOU WOULD LIKE TO BRING ALONG? Let us know a bit about your dog(s) and with a $75 per dog cleaning fee, we should be able to accommodate you. Sorry, two dog max. No cats permitted. THE WILDLIFE: There are animals around the premises including many deer, foxes, multiple species of raptors and other birds, armadillos, many rabbits, black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, coyotes and more! You won’t see all of these at the cabin, but if you get out on the trails, you might get lucky... MOUNTAIN LIVING 1. We are located just shy of 10,000 feet so please drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness. 2. Sometimes the wind kicks up to remind us of all the things we cannot control, but it usually settles down again within a few hours. You would be best not to leave belongings outside. 3. Wildlife is somewhat rare but has been known to wander through so please do not leave food outside at night. 4. Be prepared with lots of clothing layers so you can adapt to changing conditions. Mountain storms come and go quickly. RESPECT The Bear Den is located in a remote, tiny mountain town. Twin Lakes is pretty amazing; in fact, our family is a little apprehensive to share it with others. As visitors to the area, please think about your impact on our town and the small surrounding communities. Please respect full-time residents' privacy and solitude. Follow Leave No Trace guidelines when visiting and recreating in the beautiful outdoors, and consider supporting local dining and shopping during your stay. SMOKING We like to keep our cabins as fresh as the outside alpine air. If you need to smoke, you'll need to step outside to do so. There will be a $600 fine for any smoking inside the cabins VIEWS Unfortunately the lake cannot be seen directly out of the windows. However, if you are standing outside, you can see everything. I am here for you during your stay but our level of interaction is up to you. I’m only a phone call or message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival and self check-out upon departure. I’m happy to be contacted via phone or through Airbnb before, during or after your stay. LOCATION & THE TOWN OF TWIN LAKES Just outside the cabin you will enjoy stunning views of Mt Elbert - the second highest peak in the contiguous U.S. as well as of Mt. Hope, another of the tallest peaks in Colorado. You will fall in love with the clear morning lake views and awe-inspiring panoramic perspectives. These gorgeous mountain views create an amazing backdrop for the ever-changing light show, which offers glorious sunrises and mind-blowing sunsets. Occasional passing storms and rainbows add to the magnificent display of nature. A mere two-hour drive from Denver, Twin Lakes is a remote historic mining town. Nestled deep within a National Forest at the base of the Rockies’ tallest mountains, yet close to the booming outdoor adventure towns of Buena Vista and Leadville, the town of Twin Lakes is an undiscovered gem. Our cabins offer the best views in the state of Colorado and immediate access to the wilderness just outside your door. You will gain an appreciation for the peaceful beauty of this untamed area like you have never known before. We are accessible year-round. Our cabin is located on a county road that gets plowed when there's snow; however, we still recommend AWD with good tire tread in the snowy months (generally December to April). Winter driving conditions on the highways leading to the cabin can change rapidly, so check the weather before heading out. Colorado has some specific winter driving laws pertaining to tire requirements. DISTANCES (APPROXIMATE - please increase if inclement weather): Ski Resorts -Copper - 50 min -Ski-Cooper - 40 min -Monarch - 1 hour 10 min -Vail - 1 hour 15 min -Keystone - 1 hour 15 min -Breckenridge - 1 hour 15 min Towns/Cities -Twin Lakes (town) - 8 minutes -Denver - 2 hours -Buena Vista - 30 minutes -Leadville - 25 minutes -Aspen - 3 hours -Salida - 1 hour -Colorado Springs - 2 hours 15 min -Easy and simple automatic, self-check in process -Electronic guidebook with our favorite local suggestions (hikes, dining, attractions) -‘Socially’ set up to allow maximum comfort for your entire party -Fully equipped kitchen & BBQ - On-Site Internet. -Basic toiletries provided - towels, soap, shampoo...etc. -King bed & Queen bed -Green Leaf Memory foam mattresses to provide the greatest level of comfort -Black-out curtains to help you sleep as late as you want to -Onsite washer/dryer -Large 43” SMART TV for when you need to chill out after a long day of adventure -Board games to play with your friends & family There is no public transportation that will take you up here. Come relax in this three bedroom and 2 bath home. Located at the end of the road in a beautiful grove of pines and only minutes from the Mount Elbert trail head. This home has all the modern conveniences while offering a back country life style. Home is only 10 minutes to Twin Lakes and 25 minutes to Leadville. The breathtaking natural beauty of Colorado's largest glacial lakes, reflecting some of the nation's highest peaks, makes Twin Lakes one of the world's most scenic places. A fifteen-minute drive from Leadville, or hour-long journey over Independence Pass from Aspen, will take travelers to a peaceful world of pristine mountain landscapes. The Historic Village of Twin Lakes, once busy as a mountain transportation hub between Aspen and Leadville during the gold rush days, was described in 1885 as "the most charming summer mountain resort in Colorado." Very little has changed in Twin Lakes since then. In the event of inclement weather (ex: heavy snow, etc.) we will not be able to help with any vehicle issues. We recommend using 4-wheel and All Wheel drive vehicles to get to the property during these times. This location will meet all your needs. Lastly, we ask that you respect our highly valued water. Please be conscious of not watering outside, the length of your showers, how often you do laundry, etc. We thank you in advance for your efforts on this.

House (1800 sq. ft.) in Leadville, CO
2.9 miles from Twin Lakes
Located just a few miles south of Leadville and close to Twin Lakes and the Historic Hayden Ranch, THE WILLOWS has a peaceful setting while giving easy access to Highway 24 for quick trips to mountain trails, ski resorts, or simply Colorado sight-seeing. Backing to BLM open space, the cabin has HUGE, unobstructed views of Mt. Elbert (Colorado's Highest Peak) and the Mt. Massive, as well as other peaks in the Sawatch range. This is a fisherman's paradise with only a few minutes walk to the Arkansas River and its "Gold Medal Waters" and a short drive to multiple fishing lakes. The rustic external appearance of the cabin is deceiving. The open ranch style floor plan of this ~1,800 sq. ft. three bedroom, two bath home away from home has been updated with all the modern conveniences while keeping a true Colorado mountain cabin feel. The reclaimed barn wood floors, massive timber architectural features, rustic furniture and resort cabin decorating all will add to your authentic Colorado vacation experience. For extended stays (once you visit for a weekend, you may want to spend month or more…), guests can leverage the full size washer and dryer to ensure they never run out of fresh clothes. Colorado 14ers are all around you; Mt. Elbert is the highest in Colorado at 14,433' and sits directly outside the back door, with trailheads within minutes drive. A short distance up highway 82 toward Aspen is the trailhead to LaPlata Peak. Hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and snow-mobiling on the multitude of trails in Lake County are among the leading outdoor activities in central Colorado. (There are some very good maps showing all the area trailheads, hiking & ATV trails at the shops in Leadville.) The Colorado Trail (segment #11) passes nearby at Twin Lakes, just 10 minutes' drive from The Willows, as does the Continental Divide Trail; there are many trailhead and spurs to pick from with fun forays into the wilderness in many directions. A great, family friendly hike starts at the Colorado Trail trailhead at Twin Lakes and follows the south banks for ~2.5 miles out to the historic Interlaken resort where visitors can explore this amazing site from the late 1800s. Fishing outstanding in our surrounding lakes and rivers including ForeBay lake, Twin Lakes, Turquoise Lake, and the Arkansas River just across the road. The stretch of the Upper Arkansas River flowing just to the east of The Willows was just designated "Gold Medal Waters," and is now recognized as some of the best and most productive trout habitat in the state. These waters provide great boating opportunities as well, from relaxing lake kayaking and canoeing to more extreme white water rafting. Several rafting companies headquarter out of Buena Vista and are happy to book you for rafting adventures. ATV trails are plentiful and Lake County has a local ordinance allowing the use of ATVs/UTVs on all county roads (Paved or dirt). Several ski resorts are located within an hour and a half; Monarch Mountain, Ski Cooper (Family Friendly - just about 20 minutes NW of Leadville), Copper Mountain, Beaver Creek, Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge. Taylor Park, west of Buena Vista, is one of the most beautiful locations in the world; simply cross Cottonwood Pass (in the summer) and enjoy the scenery. Aspen is located 34 miles west on Highway 82 across Independence Pass and offers some of the premier aspen viewing in the state during the fall months as the trees transform into groves of golden fire. (Independence pass is generally closed in winter due to snowpack and travel restrictions). 4-Wheel Drive trails are abundant and the trip through Mosquito Pass is unrivalled; Weston Pass offers breathtaking scenery and a little less fear...travel both with caution! Salida offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and even has a zip line course for the daring! There is also now a new public zip-line north of Leadville just before you climb the hill to the Climax mine.

Although secluded, guests are only 20 minutes from grocery and main street shopping with restaurants and local night life. Four-wheel drive is not necessary as the roads are well maintained by the estate managers. Guests can fly into either Denver International Airport or Colorado Springs local airport; both airports are a 2-hour drive to the cabin. Cabin (775 sq. ft.) in Leadville, CO
9.5 miles from Twin Lakes
Sorry, closed due to the flu until April 30. (Updated March 20, 2020) This is a remote cabin during the winter and we are two miles from the nearest maintained road! Be prepared with your snow shoes or cross country skis for the last two miles from the parking area to the Retreat! The road to the Retreat is snow covered and is unpassable to wheeled vehicles. During winter, we are accessible only via Snowmobile, Snowshoe, or Cross Country Ski or Back Country Ski. The natural snow base during peak winter season is generally between 48 and 80 inches. You will need to pack in and out your provisions, similar to a ski touring vacation. We currently have a natural snow base of about 40 inches. The Retreat is a modern log home located in the back country on Long & Derry hill overlooking Empire Gulch. Near Leadville, Colorado, the cabin sleeps four comfortably and is very homey. The rates listed are for double occupancy. Add $25 per additional person per night. The Retreat is at an attitude of 11,150 feet above sea level and is located near Leadville, Colorado, North America's highest incorporate city at 10,152 feet above sea level. We are the perfect backcountry getaway for outdoor enthusiasts and for high altitude training. Enjoy hiking, running, backpacking, cycling, snow shoe, cross country ski, back country ski, snowmobiling and much more just outside your door. In general, we are ONLY accessible from June thru November by four wheel or all wheel drive vehicles with good tires depending on snow accumulation. The Retreat is located seven miles south of Leadville, within the Paddock State Wildlife Area which is about 1300 acres and home to several species of large animals including bear, mountain lion, moose, elk, deer and an occasional Golden Eagle. There are many miles of deserted mining, forestry and county roads both for the extreme athlete and the snowmobile or ATV enthusiast. The area is very popular during summer with mountain bikers and ultra marathon runners. The highest recorded summer temperature is 86 degrees. During snow season, many miles of trails are groomed for cross country skiing or snowmobile riding. No matter what time of year, this is a beautiful place. The area is filled with old growth forest and a few scars on the land, the only remaining evidence of the once popular mining economy. The cabin is nestled amongst 14,000 foot peaks including the two tallest mountains in Colorado, Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive. Our southern exposure gives us sunny afternoons and a view of Mt. Hope. The area is very quiet. The few sounds you may hear are passing ATV’s and snowmobiles or dog sled teams. The property includes both mature pine and aspen forest that turn a special gold for a few days each fall. The cabin features electricity via a solar array. You should interpret this to mean that while we do have electricity, it is in limited supply since the cabin is completely off grid. This means no high wattage appliances are supported. (No hair dryers, coffee makers, electric blankets, heating devices, etc.) We do provide a stove top percolator for coffee service. We provide Hulu, Net Flix and Amazon Prime as well as Hughes Net satellite internet service and WiFi. The kitchen features a refrigerator, gas stove and microwave oven and is outfitted with most common cooking utensils. Linens for the bathroom, beds and kitchen are also provided. We also provide drinking water thru a reverse osmosis unit so that our guests are not burdened with the weight of water! The cabin is heated ONLY by a wood stove and wood is supplied for your stay. We do run a generator on the property about four hours a day to charge the solar batteries and to heat water. Altitude sickness is not uncommon for persons from lower elevations. Hydration is generally key to preventing or reducing symptoms. Due to geographic location, please be aware: “ALPINE CONDITIONS EXIST ALL YEAR LONG”! During snow season, hazards exist under the snow. Slippery, uneven surfaces are the norm year round. Please arrive prepared with proper outdoor foot wear and trail gear as the Retreat is an adventure into the wilderness as much as a comfortable home. Please let me know if you have any questions about the Retreat! Thanks, Chuck Lake County Short Term Rental License # 2019-84
